J.A.D. (monogram of Jacques De l’Ange)
(active mainly in Antwerp, ca. 1621 – ca. 1650)
The Way to Calvary
Oil on copper, 51 x 64.5 cm
Elements of Flemish Late Mannerism, light effects that suggestion an experience of Caravaggio, a thrust towards Rubens and a chromatic range showing a debt to van Dyck suggest the name of Jacques de L’Ange, who trained in Antwerp under Jan Cossiers. His catalogue is still being defined.
