The Polo Culturale Pietro Aldi in Saturnia was opened to the public in 2016 after extensive restoration and significant financial investment by the Banca di Credito Cooperativa di Saturnia e Costa d’Argento.
The cultural centre, designed by the Studio Milani in Siena, provides a permanent home for the works by Pietro Aldi collected over time by the bank. Marco Firmati was called to be its director.
BancaTEMA – born of the merger at the end of 2016 of the Credito Cooperativo di Saturnia, Costa d’Argento, Pitigliano, and Maremma savings banks – entrusted the management of the centre, and more in general the cultural activities sponsored by the new bank, to TEMAVita, a mutual assistance association in which BancaTEMA holds a majority stake.
The Polo stands out for its numerous activities, and over time has become a cultural venue open to the broader community, hosting annual shows including Amos Cassioli and his Purist Friends in collaboration with the Museo Cassioli in Asciano, and Pietro Aldi and the Risorgimento Room in Siena.
In 2019, moving beyond its usual perimeter, the Polo mounted in Florence, in the exhibition space of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, the show Pietro Aldi, Painter (Manciano 1852-1888), with the aim of promoting in a wider context the figure of this Maremman artist, but also of his homeland.
